We’re thrilled to announce that Hafal has been chosen as Swansea Comic and Gaming Convention’s (SCGC) Charity of the Year for 2022.

Through becoming Charity of the Year, a portion of SCGC’s ticket sales will be donated directly to Hafal, as well as money collected through donation boxes and collection buckets at the event.

The Convention will be held on the weekend of 9th-10th April at the brand new Swansea Arena.

SCGC is an independently run, not-for-profit convention which focuses on comics, cosplay and all aspects of gaming (from video gaming to tabletop wargames and board games to TCGs).

The Convention started in 2016 and strives to be a fun, family friendly event run annually in Swansea whilst also raising vital funds for charity.

Commenting on why SCGC chose Hafal as their Charity of the Year, Committee Member Sam Lewis said: “We always try to choose a Welsh-based charity as part of the event’s community focus.

“We selected Hafal this year from a pool of Welsh charities nominated by the Convention’s Organisation Committee because of the fantastic work they do in the community in aid of people affected with mental health problems – and we wanted a local charity close to home to benefit from the funds raised at our event.

“In previous events we have raised over £12,000 for various charities and our aim now is to help raise as much money as possible for Hafal!”

Thanking SCGC for selecting Hafal as their chosen charity, Adferiad Recovery Director Lisa Williams said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to the team at Swansea Comic and Gaming Convention for choosing Hafal as their Charity of the Year this year.

“Every year Hafal – and now Adferiad Recovery – supports thousands of people with a serious mental illness and their families and carers in Swansea and all across Wales, as well as a number of other vulnerable groups. Without the generous support of organisations like SCGC we wouldn’t be able to provide our vital services.

“A huge thank you from all our Members, clients, staff and volunteers!”
